Finally, we’re almost at the point where I can share the music with you! We’re hearing the final mixes this week, and if we like, they master! You should be able to listen to it within the next 2 weeks, or hopefully less! This has been a long project, but a very rewarding one! Due to the size of the project, and unforeseen circumstances like my back-operation earlier this year, and the illness and death of my dad quite recently, it took almost a year. My back-operation alone took me out of the equation for nearly 4 months!! Trying to sing while being strapped into a harness, is just basically impossible – if you want to do a proper job of it anyway!
But I’m glad things worked out the way it did. It gave us time to plan properly, rethink our song choices, revisit the arrangements etc. And what we ended up with is exactly what I wanted it to be.
We’re starting on the pre-production of the next 6 songs now, and I’m very excited about the material we’re working with. I love the vibe of the new songs! We’ll probably get the first song’s arrangement in a week’s time, and personally one of my favorites thus far. To pick my favorite amongst the ones we’ve done now, is frankly impossible, because they’re so different. I just loooove “Virgin Death”, did from the moment we wrote it. Then there’s the power of “Epilogue”, “Moth around the flame” – which has the most divine arrangement – the cello is to die for!! And in terms of just loving the vibe, “Fuck off and die!” surely is one of the songs I love singing the most!
I enjoy writing and performing this music immensely! It freed me up in every sense of the word. For the first time in my life I started letting my hair down completely (and have you looked at my photos recently – there’s a lot of hair to let down:-D)! I’ve never been challenged this much, as a composer and as a vocalist, in my entire life!! It stretched and shifted my boundaries beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined! It was daunting at first, I have to be honest – reinventing oneself isn’t easy, but the reward is just so darn amazing!!
Till next time. . .
